If you drive a vehicle over three years old, you are required by law to keep it in a safe, road worthy condition. MOT tests simply assesses whether or not your car, van or 4×4 meets the minimum road safety and environmental standard. Vehicles that do not pass their MOT test are not eligible to be driven on the UK’s roads and failure to have your vehicle MOT tested may result in a fine.
The MOT test is not the same as having your vehicle serviced and doesn’t check its general mechanical condition. Larkins Automotive Services always recommend that you get your vehicle regularly serviced (at least once a year to prevent mechanical failure/breakdown), on top of the compulsory MOT test. Larkins Automotive Services can carry out a pre-MOT inspection for you and present your vehicle for its MOT test.
What does an MOT test include?
- Fuel system and emission levels
- Steering and suspension
- Registration plate
- Vehicle Identification number
- Windscreen, wipers and washers
- Operation of doors
- Security of seats and seat belts
- Condition of mirrors
- Efficiency and quality of brakes, wheels and tyres
MOT tests can be conducted on your car up to one month prior to the expiry date of an existing MOT certificate, provided that a current MOT certificate is presented to the examiner at the time of the test. On passing the MOT the car will receive a certificate valid from the date of expiry of your existing MOT certificate. Larkins Automotive Services offers a free re-test within 10 working days if your vehicle should fail its MOT.
